Hello Fellow Members
I do hope you enjoyed the Show, I thought it was super – even better than last year.
With all the running around I’m rather disappointed there is no time to take in all the exhibits but what I did notice was that even though the growing season was at least a month late the quality of the vegetables was phenomenal. I find standing at one end of the marquee and looking down through the handicrafts and flowers to the children’s colourful exhibits so inspiring, Its just wonderful what is produced by a relatively small number of exhibitors.
Of course the Children’s always takes your breath away. For the record there were in excess of 1860 exhibits.
The Show is put together by such a small number of members if I could encourage just a few more members to give us a hand it would be fabulous. This doesn’t mean you have to give up hours of time – a great deal can be achieved in a couple of hours – PLEASE give it some thought – and – whilst you are thinking could I ask if help could be given to the Children’s Committee, either pinning up the exhibits on the Friday after 4.00pm or stewarding for the Judges. This extra help would be greatly appreciated.
Please note the extra events we are holding in order to raise our funds. These events are open to non members so bring along your friends and neighbours.
Next year the Society will be 100 years old so our 91st Show will feature Edwardian times!!
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the AGM on the 28th October at the Sacred Heart Church Hall at 8.00pm
Please come along to our Autumn Harvest Show on the 9th September. We decided to put this Show on as “a bit of fun” for those who grow a few vegetables, perhaps in containers, and have fruit trees or flowers in the garden. Nothing competitive but perhaps it will inspire others to enter the Summer Show when they see how easy it is!
Finally, thank you for supporting the Society, I feel the Summer Show reveals the heart of the Village and we should be proud we are one of the oldest “tented” village shows in the North West.
